2022, was “The Year of Massacres” for Sri Lanka, Manoj Rajapaksa US residence surrounded by Sri Lankan protestors shouting slogans that ask your father to return, who ran away to Singapore. The news quickly spread worldwide that Sri Lankans protested in front of Gotabaya Rajapaksha’s son’s house in the USA. There were not any reports of violence, protestors were simply chanting the slogans with sign boards in their hands.
The Reason of the Outrage
Manoj Rajaksa son of former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He is an engineer by profession. Faced lots of backlash for the ‘Sri Lankan Crisis’. In 2022, Sri Lanka faced the worst phase in its history. The nation was struggling through the economic crises and political instability. And if we go deep into the situation with them, Sri Lanka was struggling with the shortage of essential goods like- fuel, food and medicines. And the main reason behind that was the ‘Rajapaksha Family’ who had been the face of Sri Lanka’s politics since 2005. And even after the collapse Sri Lanka is suffering from the damage done by them.
Situation got Worse for Rajapaksa Family
After the collapse people of Sri Lanka independently gave their statements on the situation. They marked out the dictatorship of Rajapaksa’s, who always kept their relatives and friends on the higher positions in government and military. Critics also mentioned Manoj Rajapaksa in the debates asking the question how he managed to buy numerous luxury houses in the USA. When the situation reached its peak then, protesters invaded the presidential palace and Gotabya Rajapaksa had to flee out of the country with his wife Ioma Rajapaksa. And this incident ended the dominance of the Rajapaksa family in Sri Lanka’s politics.
However, Gotabaya Rajapaksa left the country. But other members of the Rajapaksa family continued their political involvements.

Current Situation of Sri Lanka
In 2023, Sri Lanka started recovering from the crises slowly. As a sign Sri Lanka’s economic growth was 3-4% in 2023. Which surely shows that Sri Lanka as a nation is on the right path for recovery. However, the price of living in the country is still at its peak. But the road to recovery is still challenging for them. Sri Lanka is currently under the ‘Ranil Wickremesinghe’ leadership. And they bring stability in the politics of the nation.
